About Gulf Coast Protection District (GCPD)
Gulf Coast Protection District (GCPD) is a special-purpose district established in 2021 by the 87th Texas Legislature. Assuming the role of non-Federal sponsor for major elements of the Coastal Texas Project and Sabine Pass to Galveston Bay Project, GCPD is part of the largest coastal protection effort in U.S. history. The district collaborates with local governments, engineers, and environmental agencies to develop projects that reduce flood risk, improve drainage systems, and strengthen coastal protection. GCPD supports sustainable infrastructure, regional planning, and public safety efforts that help safeguard residents, businesses, and natural ecosystems across the Gulf Coast region.
