She looked for a career that combined her desire to spend a lifetime learning about biology and her determination to engage with others for the betterment of the community. She found that combination in medicine. She was drawn to gastroenterology because this specialty focuses on maximizing patients’ quality of life, comfort, and confidence as they move through the world. It also offers her the opportunity to do procedural work while developing long-term relationships with her patients.
